As part of the Black History Month celebrations, Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Rice's first grade classes constructed a Freedom Quilt. Students first listened to books about slavery during colonial times, the Underground Railroad, and how Freedom Quilts were used to communicate by escaping slaves. Romulus Elementary

Ms. Rosie came to Romulus Elementary to share her knowledge of African-American instruments and stories.  Students were asked to interact with Ms. Rosie by playing special instruments and telling interactive stories of African American culture. All students enjoyed and learned African phrases as well as oral traditions with Ms. Rosie's presentation.
